Professor Ertürk received received the
Turkish Academy of Science's (TÜBA) Distinguished Young Scientist Award for
2006. The award is given according to the guidelines of the GEBIP (Üstün
Başarılı Genç Bilim İnsanlarını Ödüllendirme Programı).The award is a three-year
fellowship, and each year provides financial support to be used for research

achieved tunable white light generation using nanocrystal hybridization on light
emitting diodes with adjustable color properties for the first time in the
world. The article "White Light Generation Using CdSe/ZnS Core-Shell
Nanocrystals Hybridized with InGaN/GaN Light Emitting Diodes" by Sedat
Nizamoğlu, Tuncay Özel, Emre Sarı, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir is
highlighted as a featured article on the hard cover of the prestigious SCI
journal NANOTECHNOLOGY (vol. 18, no. 6 in the issue of 14 February 2007).
Professor Demir was nominated as one of the Junior Chamber
International (JCI) Turkey’s candidates for The Young Outstanding Persons (TOYP)
Competition and received the First Prize in Scientific Leadership

FOTONIK'05 Conference held at Bilkent University
The seventh Optics, Electro-optics and Photonics Conference
(FOTONIK 2005), was held at Bilkent on December 12, 2005. The conference was
organized by the Faculty of Science, the Nanotechnology Research Center
(NANOTAM) and the Nanotechnology Student Club, and attended by more than 200
participants from academia, funding agencies and industry, including scientists,
students, engineers and decision-makers working in the field of photonics across
the country. Professor David A. B. Miller and Professor James S. Harris of
Stanford University gave plenary talks at the opening of the conference.

Descartes Award
In a ceremony held at the Royal Society in
London on December 2, 2005 Professor Soukoulis, Professor Ozbay, and Team EXEL
